Olivier Mbaizo is off the Philadelphia Union roster. The club waived the 28-year-old fullback on Wednesday, closing a run that began in 2018.
Mbaizo made 156 appearances across all competitions in Philadelphia and recorded 13 assists. He was part of both of the club’s Supporters’ Shield-winning squads.
Internationally, he has 14 caps for Cameroon and was on their 2022 FIFA World Cup roster.
Sporting director Jon Scheer thanked Mbaizo in the club’s announcement, citing his “dedication, professionalism, and impact” on the organization and wishing him well.
The move lands in the same stretch that brought Kai Wagner back to Philadelphia on a Designated Player contract.
Ryan Richter remains interim head coach following the club’s split with Bradley Carnell in late May. Philadelphia’s first match back from the World Cup break is July 22 against Red Bull New York, 7:30 pm ET on Apple TV.v
