A Key Departure After Big Moves

The Philadelphia 76ers are losing a major front office leader right before training camp starts. Running the Los Angeles Sparks in the WNBA will be Ariana Andonian’s new role. This move comes after a summer where the team added big names and a top draft pick. The team entered the 2026 offseason with little hope after a playoff sweep, yet they made big changes. Now, those changes face a test as Andonian leaves for a new role.

Per The Sixer Sense, Andonian is taking over the Sparks front office operation. Raegan Pebley, the former general manager who ended her relationship with the organization in July, will be succeeded by her. The Sparks are currently No. 11 in the WNBA standings with a 15-25 record this season. This is a big jump for Andonian, who previously served as vice president of player personnel and general manager of the Delaware Blue Coats. Her departure leaves a hole in the Sixers’ staff just as they prepare for the new season.

Andonian has a long history in basketball that goes back to college. At the NCAA level, she worked for Duke Basketball under icons Mike Krzyzewski and Jon Scheyer as a player personnel consultant. She started her NBA career by becoming a scouting coordinator for the Houston Rockets’ front office. Her move to Philadelphia was a step up, but the WNBA opportunity proved too good to pass up. The Sixers now must find someone to fill her shoes before the season begins.

The Summer of Acquisitions

Despite this loss, the Sixers had a transformative summer filled with big deals. LeBron James was signed to the roster while Jaylen Brown was acquired by Philadelphia from the Boston Celtics. They also drafted Labaron Philon Jr. with the 22nd overall pick, calling him the most fun and marketable player left on the board. These moves show the team is trying to build a championship contender quickly after the previous year’s failures.

The team also signed Tacko Fall, Jameer Nelson Jr., and Saint Thomas to Exhibit 10 deals. Before the regular season starts, a team may convert a non-guaranteed Exhibit 10 contract into a two-way contract. These deals allow a team to roster up to six Exhibit 10 contracts at a time, providing significant flexibility. Players who do not secure a two-way contract may join the team’s G League affiliate and earn a bonus for remaining at least 60 days.

Fall has a specific history that the Sixers are hoping to build on. In July of 2019, Boston selected him as an undrafted free agent. He played 26 games through two seasons where he averaged 2.7 points and 2.6 rebounds. Fall later signed with the Cleveland Cavaliers in October 2021. Because pace and space dominate the NBA, his poor shooting and mobility led him to spend the remainder of his career overseas. The Sixers hope to fix that with new coaching.

Camp Starts Soon

The clock is ticking down for the team to get ready for the new season. Training camp for the Sixers is scheduled to commence on September 29. This date gives the front office very little time to replace Andonian and finalize the roster. The pressure is on to get the new players ready to play at a high level immediately.

The mix of veteran stars and young talent creates a unique challenge for the coaching staff. LeBron James and Jaylen Brown bring huge experience, while Philon Jr. brings energy. The team needs to find a balance between these different styles of play. If they can get it right, the 2026 season could be a turning point for the franchise.

The loss of Andonian is a setback, but the roster looks stronger than it did a few months ago. The front office must act fast to keep the momentum going. The fans are watching closely to see if the team can overcome this staff change. The season starts soon, and there is no time to waste on finding a replacement.
