Sirianni’s Lurie Comments Show Owner’s Hand In Eagles QB Shake-Up

Nick Sirianni claims full support from Jeffrey Lurie, but the timing of the Joe Milton start suggests the owner may be pushing for a change.

A massive hole endangers the 76ers’ championship chances despite their 4-1 start atop the Eastern Conference. They are getting absolutely pounded on the glass, giving up 52.4 boards a night while pulling down only 42.2 themselves. That brutal -10.2 rebounding differential is a ticking time bomb for a team that already struggles with offensive flow. If they cannot fix this against the New York Knicks on Friday, their early success will vanish fast.

Maxey Is The Engine

While the roster is stacked with stars, the hierarchy has shifted in a surprising way. It is becoming increasingly clear that this is Tyrese Maxey’s team, a fact backed by his heavy workload and scoring output. Crossing Broad reports Maxey averages 28.4 points, 4.6 rebounds, and 4.2 assists for the squad. Leading the team in usage, he plays 37.6 minutes per game, exceeding the next highest player by 1.2. His shooting volume is extreme, with 21.2 field-goal attempts per game, four more than any other roster member. When asked about the changes needed after last season’s struggles, Maxey stated, “I think the biggest thing I’m trying to accomplish is: we need a standard.”

Too Many Stars, Not Enough Balance

The offense remains a work in progress despite the incredible talent surrounding the core. Per Philadelphia Sports Nation, the team ranks 26th in the NBA with a 106.8 offensive rating and 110.8 points per game. Head coach Nick Nurse has Joel Embiid, LeBron James, Jaylen Brown, and VJ Edgecombe, but defining distinct roles is proving difficult. The team needs to decide whether to highlight individual players or focus on team-oriented basketball. LeBron James could be the key to fixing this chemistry, as he offers outstanding court vision without needing to dominate the scoreboard. However, the lack of synergy is evident even with such a high ceiling.

A Trade Fix Or A Playoff Bust?

The rebounding issue is so severe that some are already suggesting a specific trade to fix the frontcourt. Yardbarker reports that the Sixers could target a high-energy center like Moussa Diabaté to shore up the glass without costing a first-round pick. The current depth chart looks risky, especially with Joel Embiid managing a right foot plantar fasciitis injury. The bench has already taken hits, with Ariel Hukporti suffering a season-ending injury and Jabari Walker also out with a knee issue. If the Sixers do not address the fact that they are giving up 13.8 offensive rebounds every single game, their championship aspirations could derail before the playoffs even begin.
