A wild four-team trade proposal sends Joel Embiid to Detroit for Jalen Duren. The deal involves massive salary numbers and a new center for Philly.

The Philadelphia Sixers have finally fixed their biggest problem. For years, the team looked great in the first round only to crumble when the stars rested. That era is over. The roster for 2026-27 features a starting five that includes LeBron James, Joel Embiid, and Tyrese Maxey, but the real story lies in the bench. According to Liberty Ballers, depth is no longer an issue despite what national critics might claim.

The Bench Got a Major Upgrade

Look at the moves made this summer. Alabama guard Labaron Philon was chosen by the team as the 22nd overall pick. Philon is expected to handle the ball well enough to give Maxey a real break. This is huge. Last season, VJ Edgecombe had to fill the backup point guard role almost alone. The new roster also adds Cleveland Cavaliers forward Dean Wade on a four-year deal. He brings versatility that the team desperately needed. Liberty Ballers reported that Wade’s signing was one of the first major moves in free agency.

Then there is the big man behind Embiid. The Sixers signed New York Knicks center Ariel Hukporti to a deal above the minimum. This gives Joel a true backup who can actually play. The front office stopped worrying about just the stars. Mike Gansey and his team knew they needed a little bit of everything. Adding Wade and Hukporti struck those exact notes.

Trading George for Brown Was Genius

The trade for Jaylen Brown might be the smartest move of the offseason. Boston Celtics received Paul George and draft picks from The Sixers. They did not give up any players currently on the roster. This swap instantly improved the depth because Brown is an All-NBA pick who can score. According to Liberty Ballers, Brown’s availability is far superior to what George offered. The starting group now looks like one of the most talented in NBA history.

But the bench got even better with guard Anfernee Simons. His acquisition was surprising and perhaps the most underrated move of the summer. Simons is an elite offensive player who can score and hit threes at a high level. He brings volume scoring that the team lacked in the postseason. The Sixers often needed any type of scoring punch when the stars sat down. Now they have a guy who can provide exactly that.

Why This Roster Wins Now

The 2025-26 team had debilitating depth issues that exposed them in the second round. The eventual champion New York Knicks took advantage of those weaknesses. The new 2026-27 squad is built to prevent that from happening again. You need guys to pitch in on load management nights or hit big shots while the stars get the attention. The Sixers now have those guys in Wade, Simons, and Hukporti.

It is not crazy to suggest that Labaron Philon could join the All-NBA conversation one day. The team has five incredibly gifted players in the starting lineup. But the depth ensures they do not fall apart when the rotation shifts. The national folks who doubted the depth were wrong. This roster is built for a long run. The Sixers are ready to challenge for a title.
