The LeBron Show Distraction

LeBron James turns 42 by the end of the calendar year. That age makes him a bad choice for a team trying to win a title. The biggest worry isn’t just his skill, but the noise around him. According to Liberty Ballers, James brings a full film crew to document his final days. This crew will follow him everywhere he goes in Philadelphia. He also reportedly doesn’t plan to live in the city. A star player who doesn’t live in town and carries a camera crew could hurt team focus. The team needs everyone to stay locked in on basketball, not on making a movie. If the “LeBron Show” gets too loud, the players might lose their edge.

Embiid’s Health Woes

Joel Embiid is the heart of this team, but his body is a constant worry. The 2026 postseason showed just how wild his health can be. He missed the first three games against Boston but still scored 100 points in that series. That run helped the Sixers beat the Celtics after falling behind 3-1. Yet, he couldn’t stay healthy for the next round against the Knicks. He sat out Game 2, which was the only game Philadelphia actually had a chance to win. According to Liberty Ballers, Embiid will almost certainly sit out a minimum of 30 regular season contests. That’s a huge chunk of the schedule to lose your best player. The team must finish in the top four to get an easier path in the playoffs. Without that seed, they’ll have to play through the play-in tournament again.

Thirty games.

That’s the number Liberty Ballers cited for his expected absence, and it changes how the roster needs to be built. You can’t build a championship around a player who’s out for nearly two months unless you have a backup plan that actually works.

Can the Backup Hold?

When Embiid sits, the team often falls apart. The Sixers don’t win enough minutes when their star is on the bench. Ariel Hukporti is the new backup hope. He needs to prove he can handle the load when Embiid rests. The front office hopes Hukporti can weather the storm of inevitable absences. For the majority of Embiid’s career, this issue has persisted. The team needs a reliable backup to keep them in the top four. If Hukporti fails, the ceiling for the 2026-27 season drops fast. The team is betting on a player who has never played a real NBA minute. It’s a risky move for a team with so much hype. If the backup can’t step up, the season could end in a play-in loss. The Sixers need to find a way to win without their MVP. Otherwise, all that hype will turn into another early exit.

James said he will do whatever it takes to win. That promise sounds good, but actions matter more than words.
