The Pittsburgh Steelers just crushed the Cleveland Browns 27-6 on Sunday, yet the front office has no plans to add help before the trade deadline. Many fans say the team needs more weapons to win a Super Bowl. According to Yahoo Sports, Steelers insider Gerry Dulac confirmed the team will not make a move despite their strong start.
The Steelers sit at 6-2 and hold the top spot in the AFC North division. They beat the Browns by 21 points in a game that showed their running game is finally clicking. But Dulac stated clearly that the team is not looking to change their roster right now. “They’re not looking to make a move, and they’re certainly not looking to get rid of one of their players,” said Dulac during his appearance on the 102.5 DVE pregame show Sunday morning.
Why the Front Office Stays Put
Rodgers is 42 years old and playing in his final season in the NFL. He has thrown for 1,871 yards with 13 touchdowns so far this year. The offense runs well with backs Jaylen Warren and Rico Dowdle. Warren has rushed for 704 yards and looks like a top player in the league. But the team feels their current mix is good enough to contend.
The team says it is already a playoff contender. He noted that if they go 6-2, they will not trade away a player because they feel they are built to win. “If they go 6-2, they certainly won’t trade one of their players because they figure they’re a contender,” Dulac told fans. The front office sees no need to break up a group that just won three games in a row.
The Passing Game Struggles
The decision to stay put is risky given how the passing game has looked lately. Star wideout DK Metcalf has had a rough season with 33 receptions for 378 yards. On Sunday, Rodgers threw a deep pass that was dropped. Instead, the ball tipped and was intercepted by the other team. Michael Pittman Jr. and Roman Wilson are also out with injuries. A to Z Sports noted that the offense needs help if they want to keep winning tight games.
The team continues to follow its plan. They believe their identity is running the football and they are doing it better than anyone. The offensive line did a great job quieting the Browns’ defense. The running backs averaged 6 yards per carry in the last game. The coach is confident despite not adding new faces to the mix.
A Bold Gamble for the Season
The Steelers will not make a trade before the Nov. 10 deadline. If they lose a few games, the lack of new pieces could hurt their chances. As Dulac put it, they are not actively thinking about making a trade right now.
