The Penguins won’t be going to an arbitration hearing with Nick Robertson after all. A day after the arbitration schedule came out, Pittsburgh and the restricted free agent winger agreed Tuesday to a two-year contract with a $3.25 million average annual value, settling things well ahead of any hearing and keeping the 24-year-old in place through the next two seasons.
The deal is a clear raise. Robertson made just over $1.8 million last season, and the Penguins pushed well past that number after a step forward in Toronto, where he scored 16 goals and 32 points in 78 games while mostly working third- and fourth-line shifts. His ice time reached a career high last season, though it still sat at a modest 12:40 a night.
Pittsburgh acquired Robertson from the Maple Leafs on July 1 for a 2028 fourth-round pick. With the contract done, a 48-hour buyout window is set to open three days from the signing.
